Today's wonderful thing is wheat germ.
Ewwww, right?
Wrong.
Wheat germ is not a germ. The germ stands for germination. It's the part of the wheat kernel that reproduces to make more wonderful wheat. And even better, you can't taste it! My children can't taste it. I can't taste it. But I know it's there.
I have been sprinkling it in their yogurt and mixing it up, filling their bodies with folic acid and vitamin E as they eat unaware. This morning, I added it to Jedidiah's oatmeal. "Is that sugar?" he asked. Ugh. "Sort of," I responded. Okay, I lied, but with a precocious two-year-old, if he wants to think it is sugar, so be it.
Blueberries are another wonderful thing. High in potassium and Vitamin C, they are considered a superfood, and have powerful antioxidant capabilities.
Three ingredients for a healthy breakfast. |
You can sprinkle it into basically anything. Last night, I added it to the pre-made crust topping on our chicken veggie lasagna and it was great.
I bought my bottle at the Fresh Market, but I'm sure you can find it in any grocery store. Keep it refrigerated after you open it!!
My off-to-a-good-start breakfast! |
so cool! I should add it to Robbies cereal. We started pureeing blueberries and adding them. He doesn't mind surprisingly!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful!! I've been putting it into everything! My next adventure is flaxseed. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's eating the blueberries!
Good for you guys!
ReplyDeleteOur girls alternate breakfast; eggs one day and oatmeal the next. Oatmeal ALWAYS has a healthy heaping of both wheat germ and flax seed. They've never had it any other way, and now that my 2 oldest make their own oatmeal, they add it right in!
